3. Indian Society – Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026: Education, Stress and Social Change – 9/02/2026
Context
On 9 February 2026, the Prime Minister held Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) 2026, interacting with students from Coimbatore, Raipur, Devmogra and Guwahati on exam stress, careers and digital distractions.
Background
PPC has become an annual national exercise where students, parents and teachers engage with the PM on examination anxiety and holistic learning, aligning with NEP 2020 ideas of reducing rote learning and promoting life‑skills.
Data / Trend
This is the 9th edition of PPC, with nationwide participation. Parallelly, India has seen rising exam‑related suicides in coaching hubs like Kota, and heightened concern over mental health of adolescents.
Analysis & Application
In GS‑1 (Indian society), PPC illustrates changing state–youth engagement and the pressures of hyper‑competitive education. In GS‑2 (Education, NEP 2020) it shows efforts to shift toward competency‑based assessment. For GS‑4, it raises themes of empathy, resilience, emotional intelligence, parental responsibility and institutional duty of care to students.
Way Forward
Key steps: de‑emphasise one‑shot high‑stakes exams, diversify assessment tools, integrate counsellors and psychologists in schools, regulate coaching institutes, and encourage parental awareness programmes to reduce toxic expectations.
Conclusion
PPC 2026 symbolises an important recognition: education policy must address not only learning outcomes, but also mental health, dignity and holistic development of children.
